Episode #45 – Plugged

This book review episode of Booked, you couldn’t shut us up if you tried. First, we talk about the latest Eoin Colfer book, Plugged. It’s a cheeky action thriller about an Irish doorman, hair plugs, and lots of freakin’ violence.
Later on, we get into the new lineup of Kindles that was announced by Amazon on Sept. 28. Robb gets all fanboy, and Livius flip-flops on his philosophy on ereader keyboards. It’s hard not to sound excited with the lineup and prices that Amazon dropped on us. Check it out, and the link below, if you haven’t already gotten the scoop.
But that’s not all. It wouldn’t be an episode of Booked without PATTERSON WATCH!. That’s right, a fan favorite (not really, but if we say it enough, it’s true right?) Robb & Liv give you the scoop on the latest Patterson releases and drop knowledge of a Patterson app. That’s right. An app. Keep tuning in for more Patterson talk, and hopefully one day we’ll be able to launch a new feature: Dispatches from the Book Mill.
Finally, Stephen King did some stuff. Something about a new Shining book, something about a $17 ebook. I wasn’t really paying much attention (I tend to tune out when people talk Stephen King.) On an unrelated note – can you tell that it’s Robb who writes these?

Gentlemen-
People shoot at each other in YA. The Artemis Fowl Series itself is rife with kidnappings, militaries, bombs, and guns. A reader not deterred by the cover is not necessarily remiss (though given the covers of his previous books typically feature geometric shapes and spirals and silhouttes, inattentive would be a fair allegation.)
Great review though. Pity it only came up at 3 stars from both of you, but if its Colfer I might have to scoop it up anyway.
As to a price war between Kindle and Nook, one should take into account that Kindle Fires are selling at an estimated $10 loss, (http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/09/30/amazon-isuppli-idUSS1E78T18J20110930 ) a discount characteristic of Amazon that Barnes & Noble can’t hope to compete with. If it comes down to a price war, the Nook is out the moment the challenge is issued. It’d be Apple and its tables that have to watch out when it’s competing against a content-wealthy giant like Amazon.
