Episode #53 – Michael Paul Gonzalez and In Search of a City

Booked reviews the Thunderdome anthology In Search of a City: Los Angeles in 1,000 Words. AND we got a chance to follow that up with an interview of editor and contributor Michael Paul Gonzalez!
That’s right, we liked it so much last time, we went and did another book review and interview in the same episode. We kick it off by talking about some of our favorite stories from In Search of a City: Los Angeles in 1,000 Words. Then we dragged Michael Paul Gonzalez on the talk about the book, Thundadome, and apish things as well.
And of course, our Dutch bestie Mlaz Corbier contributed some thoughts about Michael Paul Gonzales [Edit: Gonzalez - apologies for the typo, Michael]. So feel free to skip over all the nonsense and just get right to his minute of golden wisdom and advice. We’ve missed our Mlaz. Good to see you bud!
So join us as we battle over Apple products, talk about great stories, and discover that we’re old when it’s revealed that the Pearl Jam album Vitalogy has been around for like twenty years.
Hit the player for the ep, or download it and sell it for the megabucks it’s worth. Just remember to give us a cut!

“And of course, our Dutch bestie Mlaz Corbier contributed some thoughts about Michael Paul Gonzales.” Rob, Rob, Rob. Butchering my name is fine and dandy, but Mike’s as well? Gonzalez is with two zeds, mate.
And I can’t wait to be on the latest interlude!

Corrected, and with true journalistic integrity, I might add.
Now, Mlaz. What excuse do you have for spelling my name wrong three times in a row in your comment? Are they rationing the letter B in the Netherlands?
See you for the Interlude!
Mlaz said on November 30, 2011
There’s no need for that extra B. I refuse to use redundant letters, mate. Are you planning to call me Mlazz or something?

Nice intro, LA Woman, totally works! Love the photography in this collection, such a beautiful book. I’m a huge fan of Craig Wallwork, he really doesn’t get the attention he deserves, one of my favorite voices going. And I ‘m not saying that just because he’ll be at Snubnose Press with me. So many great stories in here.

I have liked and will convert friends family and strangers en masse, at gunpoint if necessary… not that it would be, anyways… as for URL I meant an XML subscription link?

you mean this: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/booked.booked-podcast-booked./id433583347
or this:

Or am I stupidly missing something very obvious? I set up all this stuff long enough ago that I’ve happily forgotten what I did.

Honored to be mentioned among the many fine contributors. Just now about halfway through the stories, myself, and I have to agree: strange and diverse and heartbreaking. L.A. wouldn’t have it any other way. And yeah, this story was more illustrative of my typical style than the one in the aforementioned W&B antho. I wrote specifically to the 1000-word target, went over just a tick, and tightened up a few descriptions. Thanks for bringing attention to this thing, guys!
