Episode #60 – Caleb J Ross double review

Booked reviews a whole lot of new Caleb J Ross stuff! We set out to read and review I Didn’t Mean To Be Kevin, which dropped recently. Luckily As A Machine and Parts dropped around the same time, so we piled it on. But that’s not all, we also unveil our picks for the Pablo D’Stair contest Out of Bullets, Throw the Gun. Check out what we had to say, and don’t forget, there’s still plenty of time to read and cast your own votes! And finally, Livius and I guest hosted on the FATinee Movie Podcast recently to talk about the recent movie The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. It’s an action packed episode, and the FATinee ep isn’t so bad either.

Hit the player for the ep, or download it and sell it for the megabucks it’s worth. Just remember to give us a cut!

  1. Great episode guys. It was a pleasure to have you on our show. Thanks for your plug on this weeks episode. Dan at http://www.FATineePodcast.com

P.S. Livius if you ever say “whereev” again I will end our friendship

  2. Livius has a reading crush on Caleb

  3. And that’s the last time I pass you a note during English class.

  4. Just don’t circle no, please. I will cry forever.

  5. You should see the box of undelivered love letters.

  6. Is there also a box of undelivered socks?

  7. Great books, both of them. Looking forward to seeing “Kevin” in print as well. Of course I’m biased about my friends’ work. Also, I’m stealing your Cosby popcorn-popper idea, and am knitting atrocious sweaters for it as we speak.

I voted “B” as well, though I felt the opposite, that its stories were more diverse and uniquely voiced. Curious to see those results. . .

If you’re able to make it down to STL, cool, otherwise I’ll see you guys in Chi-town the next day (Caleb and I are rooming together, so tie a hanky on the doorknob if your crush overcomes you).

  8. One: Caleb is the man. No question. I’m waiting for him, personally, to become more of a swaggering bastard over his talent, but he insists on being low key and humble. Great episode and deserving attention to his talent.

Two: Just a bug thanks to Rob and Livius for participating and doing so much to promote ‘Out of Bullets, throw the gun’. Can’t tell you if it was my collection they picked, yet, but great that they brought such attention to a lot of deserving pieces, individually, and to the effort as a whole.

You guys are terrific and it was a blast chatting to you (before) and listening to you, always.

    Cheers.

  9. Another quality episode. I already have two Caleb J Ross titles on my NOOK waiting to be visually raped by my corneas but I’m going to have to at least snag KEVIN too.

  10. I am totally stoked for the (Genre-cation? Gen-research? Gere-palooza? Yer right…) Intro To: BIZARRO! Reading a Bizarro title right now (ISLAND OF THE SUPER PEOPLE by Kevin Shamel for those not keeping score) so I’m really interested to hear a bona fide Bizarro author discuss the genre.

  11. So it’s Livius’ fault my toes are bare.

  12. We need to uh, talk… about ‘Kevin’

  13. Most anything is Livius’s fault.

  14. “Doctor, Lawyer, Indian Chief” comes from the American version of the “Tinker Tailor” nursery rhyme:

    “Rich Man, Poor Man,
    Beggar Man, Thief,
    Doctor, Lawyer,
    Indian Chief”
